Welcome!

Welcome to the website of the Ubuntu Australian Team. The Australian Team is made up of many members from around the country, with the goal of increasing awareness (and use) of Ubuntu within Australia. For more details on the team, please visit our page on the Ubuntu wiki.

Our Mission Statement:
* The Australian Ubuntu Team (Ubuntu-AU) is united by a commitment to the philosophy of Ubuntu and FOSS (Free and Open Source Software).
* We therefore advocate freedom from the constraints of proprietary software and enjoy the power to make our own choices to meet our computing needs.
* Ubuntu-Au provides a common hub to share ideas, resources and experiences to enable localised Ubuntu user groups to distribute, advertise, promote and demonstrate Ubuntu throughout Australia.

If you're new to Ubuntu and Linux, the best place to start is the links above:

  • Home: takes you to the front page of our web site, where you can see the latest news
  • Contact: explains how to get in contact with other Ubuntu users via email, web forums, or live chat (IRC)
  • Forum: web forum for discussing Ubuntu with other Australian users
  • Wiki: user-contributed documentation for Ubuntu
  • Planet: collection of blogs by people who use Ubuntu - not necessarily about Ubuntu
  • Order CDs: get a CD of Ubuntu for the cost of shipping

If you have a story you would like published here please contact the website administrators listed on the Contact page or the Ubuntu AU Team Mailing List

Ubuntu AU InstallFest Wrap Up

Submitted by jarednorris on Sun, 15/01/2012 - 14:49

Thanks to everyone who turned up to the Brisbane Ubuntu InstallFest last weekend at the Brisbane State library. We had around 20 people turn up for the day and comprised of people wanting to install Ubuntu, people wanting to ask questions about Ubuntu and people wanting to help others. It was good to see that we were able to get enough people in that no one wanting to install Ubuntu ever had to wait.

Photos of the day have been put up on the team's flickr group page for everyone to peruse and contribute to.
